# 🏆 WORLD_RECORD_DECOMPRESSORS

**Label (Rickard, 2026-07-13):** znippy-zoomies holds *world-record-class* decompression —
flag it, guard the numbers, don't let a regression slip in unbenched.

## What this repo is
The codec + concurrency leaf the whole constellation stands on:
- **Decompressors / codecs:** `lgz` · `ljar` · `lzip-parallel` · `lbzip2`
- **Concurrency primitive:** `gatling` (work-stealing) — the suite's shared parallelism engine
(reuse it everywhere; never hand-roll `thread::spawn`).
- **OSM path:** `osm-katana` (convert bench vs osmium/osmconvert).

## The claim (guard it)
Recorded standout results (see the mashup/GATLING sections in the docs + the
`znippy-zoomies_agents_problems.md` bench log):
- **zoomies-lbz2 ≈ 808 MB/s > lbzip2 ≈ 764 MB/s** (the earlier "lbzip2 beats us" note was flipped).
- `lgz` core-scaling analysis; planet Sweden-clip all-core face recorded.

## Standing rule
Any change to a decompressor's hot path MUST re-run its bench and keep only if
**faster AND byte-identical** (roundtrip-verify). Heavy benches run on the quiet
bench box (Loki/Odin), never inflate on a busy box. Bench data → `/home`.
This label exists so the record is never quietly lost to an unbenched regression.
