Commercial licensing

heimdall's source code is licensed under AGPL-3.0-only (see LICENSE). The AGPL is a strong network-copyleft license: if you run a modified version of heimdall and let users interact with it over a network, the AGPL requires you to offer those users the corresponding source of your modified version.

That obligation does not fit every organization. The original heimdall code is owned jointly, in equal shares (50/50), by Vetra Automation AB and Ignalina ApS. As co-owners, Vetra Automation AB and Ignalina ApS can jointly offer the same code under separate commercial terms — for example, to organizations that want to embed or modify heimdall without the AGPL's source-availability obligations.
