# Contributor License Agreement: what it grants
**DRAFT TEXT, PENDING THE OWNERS' LEGAL REVIEW.** The owners of Gunnar have decided
that outside contributions need a Contributor License Agreement (CLA). This page only
describes what that CLA will grant. It is not the agreement itself, and it is not legal
text. The legal wording is not written yet. Until it is, ask at gunnar@gunnar.rs for the
current text before your first contribution.
## Why there is a CLA
Gunnar is dual licensed: under AGPL-3.0-only, and under a commercial licence. It is owned
jointly, in equal shares, by Ignalina ApS and Vetra Automation AB. To offer your
contribution under both licences, the owners need your permission to license it under
the commercial licence as well as under the AGPL.
## What the CLA will grant
- **A licence to the owners.** You grant Ignalina ApS and Vetra Automation AB a
perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free and irrevocable licence to use,
copy, change and distribute your contribution, and to license it to others under the
AGPL-3.0-only, under the commercial licence, or under both.
## Also proposed for the legal text
These two points are usual in a CLA. They are proposed here, and the owners decide on
them in the legal review.
- **A patent licence.** You grant a licence to any patent of yours that your
contribution necessarily uses, for the contribution as you submitted it and as part
of Gunnar.
- **Your statement of origin.** You confirm that the contribution is your own work, or
that you have the right to submit it, and that your employer agrees where that is
needed.
## What the CLA will not do
- It does not transfer your copyright. You keep it, and you may use your contribution
in any other way you want.
- It does not oblige the owners to accept or use your contribution.
